...call on Ondo APC leadership to restore discipline in Owo chapter
A fresh crisis is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo Local Government Area as the Progressive Youth Forum (PYF), Owo, has accused the party’s local Publicity Secretary, Dr. Idowu Ojo, of disrespecting the office of the Deputy Governor and promoting division within the ranks of the party.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday and signed by the forum, the youths expressed deep concern over what they described as reckless conduct and unguarded utterances by certain political actors in Owo, alleging that such actions are eroding the values and unity that have long defined the town’s politics.
The group particularly condemned Dr. Ojo’s recent press release, which they said deliberately rearranged recognition by placing appointees before the Deputy Governor in an appreciation message, an act they described as a calculated insult meant to ridicule the number two citizen of the state, who hails from Owo.
According to the PYF, the move was not an error but a deliberate attempt to sow discord and undermine the office of the Deputy Governor before the public.
“What we are witnessing is not mere politics; it is a systematic erosion of respect, hierarchy, and the collective values that have long bound us together as a people,” the statement read in part.
The group accused certain individuals within the APC of prioritizing personal ambition and blind loyalty to political benefactors over the collective interest of Owo and its people.
“Owo youths will not stand by while political jobbers trade our unity for crumbs of temporary favour. We reject the politics of worship, the politics of puppetry, and the politics of division disguised as loyalty,” the forum declared.
The youths also called on the leadership of the APC in Ondo State to take urgent steps to restore order and discipline within the Owo chapter before this cancer of disrespect eats deep into the foundation of local politics, warning that the current situation could harm the party’s electoral chances in future polls.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the ideals of unity and progress, the PYF reminded party members that Owo’s political heritage was built on integrity, intellect, and courage which are values championed by figures like the late Pa Adekunle Ajasin and the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
“Owo has always been known for political sophistication, not servitude. We cannot allow the sacrifices of our forebears to be tarnished by a handful of opportunists seeking validation through mischief,” the statement added.
The forum concluded with a firm declaration that enough of the division, enough of the manipulation, and enough of the disrespect. It demanded a return to decency, dialogue, and the pursuit of the common good, stating that Owo is greater than any individual and that history will not be kind to those who trade her peace for their personal ambition.
The Ondo APC leadership has yet to issue an official response to the concerns raised by the youth group as of the time of filing this report.
