Comrade Segun Omoyofunmi, the youngest member of the Ondo State Executive Council, officially assumed duty today as Commissioner, expressing his readiness to deliver inclusive governance and champion youth development across the state.
The new commissioner resumed office in the company of representatives from several key youth and student organizations, including the Ondo State Youth Network, National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ondo State Scholars Arena, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and a delegation of former student leaders from various campuses across the state.
He was warmly received by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi, alongside directors and senior officials, who conducted him around the offices and facilities during a brief familiarisation tour. A short welcome meeting followed at the commissioner’s office.
In his address, Comrade Omoyofunmi thanked Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving in the cabinet, stating that the governor’s gesture reflects a deep and genuine commitment to youth development. He urged the ministry’s staff to remain diligent, committed, and proactive in their duties, describing them as the engine room of the government and vital to achieving meaningful development.
He pledged to run an administration that will be open, inclusive, and focused on improving service delivery while strengthening youth engagement at all levels. According to him, his leadership style will rely on teamwork and mutual respect.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi, welcomed the commissioner on behalf of the entire staff and expressed appreciation to the governor for appointing a youth into the position. She assured the new commissioner of the ministry’s support and cooperation to achieve success.
Following his resumption, Comrade Omoyofunmi joined Governor Aiyedatiwa at a youth skill acquisition programme organised by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Job Creation, Hon. Orioye Igbayisemore.
At the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that his administration listens to the people and that the appointment of a youthful commissioner was in direct response to the demands of the youth constituency in the state. He restated his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and participatory governance.
Hon. Igbayisemore also commended the governor for giving the youth of the state a voice in government, saying that the appointment of Comrade Omoyofunmi had further energised and united young people across the state.
Observers say Omoyofunmi’s resumption marks a new chapter in youth participation and leadership within Ondo State’s governance structure.
