Aiyedatiwa Under Fire for Ignoring Ijoka Road Project

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ondo State has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the recent flag-off of a 10 kilometre road project from Oke Aro Junction to Idanre, describing the move as self-serving and suspicious.

In a statement released by the party's Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Leye Igbabo, the PDP alleged that the Governor abandoned the Ijoka Road project which links Akure to Idanre because it no longer serves his personal financial interest. The party claimed that the new project was designed to create room for fresh kickbacks under the guise of people-oriented governance.

According to the statement, the ongoing hardship experienced daily by commuters and residents along the Ijoka axis has been ignored for too long. The PDP questioned why the government would initiate a new road project with a similar function instead of completing the Ijoka project which has already consumed public funds.

The opposition party expressed worry that another round of billions of naira from taxpayers is about to be misapplied on a fresh construction while numerous road projects initiated by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN remain incomplete.

The statement read in part
"If there is a genuine need for road development in the Idanre axis perhaps for political relevance one would have expected the Governor to focus on the Idanre to Ofosu road which holds greater economic value by connecting to the Benin Ore Lagos expressway"

The PDP further advised Governor Aiyedatiwa to place public interest above personal ambition and ensure that the welfare and security of the people occupy the front burner of his administration.

The party also demanded that all abandoned or ongoing road projects initiated by the Akeredolu administration be completed before any new construction is considered.

As of the time of filing this report there has been no official response from the Governor’s office regarding the allegations raised by the PDP.
