PDP Ondo Holds Strategic Meeting with Party Leaders, Reaffirms Unity and Strength Amid Defections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State yesterday Thursday held a high-level leadership and stakeholders' meeting at the Party Secretariat in Alagbaka, Akure. In a statement signed and released to newsmen on Friday morning in Akure by the State Secretary, Barr. Oluseye Olujimi, the crucial gathering was convened to appraise the current state of the party and forge a common front ahead of political activities in the state and nationally.

Present at the meeting were key figures of the party including a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr. Eddy Olorogun Olafeso, who also served as Chairman of the meeting. Also in attendance was the Chairman of the PDP Elders’ Caucus in Ondo State, Dr. Tayo Dairo, and the Secretary of the Elders’ Caucus, Hon. Barr. Ola Mafo.

The meeting also had in attendance a member of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), Engr. Clement Faboyede, and the PDP Zonal Organising Secretary (South-West), Barr. Benson Amuwa.

The Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, in person of Rt.Hon Chief Bakkita Bello, Ph.d, along with other members of the caretaker committee, played host. These included Barr. Oluseye Olujimi (Secretary), Barr. Bamidele Boluwaji (Financial Secretary), Comrade Babatunde Daodu (State Youth Leader), Hon. Tolani Hassan (Woman Leader, North), Hon. Mercy Akinlami (Woman Leader, Central), Hon. Awogun Lawrence (Special Duties), and Barr. Awofade Moses (Legal Adviser).

Notably, 16 out of the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State were duly represented by their respective Local Government PDP Chairmen. Only two LG Chairmen were unavoidably absent due to pressing commitments.

In his opening address, the Caretaker Chairman welcomed all attendees and emphatically declared that the PDP in Ondo State remains intact, united, and resilient. Despite the recent defections of a few members to other political parties, especially the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party has not lost focus. Instead, it has grown stronger, more united, and better positioned as the only viable and credible opposition in Ondo State and Nigeria at large.

Speakers took turns to reaffirm their loyalty and commitment to the PDP, noting that defections are not a threat but a purification process that strengthens the party’s resolve. The leaders emphasized that PDP remains the only party capable of offering a real alternative to the ruling APC and that efforts are underway to present a formidable and unifying front in future elections.

In conclusion, the meeting resolved to remain focused, continue grassroots mobilization, and commence immediate ward and local congress preparations starting in August. The modalities for these congresses will be announced in due course.

The PDP in Ondo State is strong, focused, and prepared to reclaim its rightful place in the political landscape of the state and the nation.
