Worried about the alarming rate of insecurity bedevilling Ondo State, a group of young professionals with focus on advocacy for good governance, education and preservation of rights, privileges and desires of indigenous people of the state, the Ondo State Youth Network(OSYN), on Saturday, took to various social media platforms to express their concerns and displeasure about the deteriorating security situation.
The earlier peaceful State has been in the news lately for wrong reasons with incessant cases of kidnappings and gunmen attacks by Fulani herdsmen, a situation that has thrown residents into palpable fear with travellers also at the mercy of men of the underworld.
Last Tuesday, about 10 people were reported to have been kidnapped along the ever busy Akure/Ado-Ekiti road. Several other cases have been reported around the State with Fulani herdsmen fingered as being responsible for the state of despair the State has been thrown into.
While monitoring the media protest, newsmen gathered that the Group expressed dissatisfaction about the seeming passiveness of government and security agencies to providing a feasible solution to the festering issue. In one of the tweets, a member was quoted as saying "the State Governor doesn't seem to care about the security situation and even went on air to brag he can't be kidnapped. Has he forgotten not all residents of the State has the capacity to walk around with retinue of security men armed to the teeth?"
While lamenting the negative impact of the activities of kidnappers and armed bandits on the people and the economy of the state, the group demanded immediate action from the State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, urging him to do more than talking and stamp his authority as the Chief Security Officer of the state. "He swore to ensure safety of lives and properties. What is he doing with the security vote he is drawing from the State's coffers monthly?" they said.
Also, the group charged the State's Commissioner of Police and other members of the State's Security Council to not just fold their arms while the State is plunged into anarchy.
Some of the tweets:
If the security of lives and properties is allowed to remain at the mercy of kidnappers and Armed robbers, the people will revert to self help and I can assure you that it will be catastrophic. #SaveOndoFromInsecurity pic.twitter.com/qgkE9ibKNf— Fearless Fang (@AjayiOlawande) June 29, 2019

My Parents live in Owo town of Ondo State. They are scared to travel down to Akure or up north to Ikare because of the incessant cases of kidnap on Akure/Owo and Owo/Ikare roads. They live daily in fear of kidnappers! Shall we continue like this? #SaveOndoFromInsecurity pic.twitter.com/ako9WbDw9G— TIWA COKER OF NIGERIA 🇳🇬 (@TiwaCoker) June 29, 2019
